چکیده

The thickest section of Early Jurassic strata known from onshore Ireland (total thickness 566 m) is reported the Ballinlea-1 well (Rathlin Basin) situated on north coast Northern Ireland. A biostratigraphical and palaeoenvironmental assessment presented for this largely based calcareous benthic microfossils (foraminifera ostracods). Waterloo Mudstone Formation (Lias Group) has previously received little micropalaeontological attention, therefore work provides an opportunity to enhance palaeogeographic understanding province, paper illustrates key microfossil taxa age first time. records, ditch-cuttings samples, demonstrate a stratigraphical range Hettangian Pliensbachian, consistent with other wells boreholes in basin. assemblage compositions are comparable those elsewhere European boreal Atlantic realm. earliest Sinemurian assemblages generally low diversity numerically dominated by metacopid ostracods occasional influxes foraminifera. Gradually, foraminiferal abundance (often species Lagenida) come exceed reaching their greatest Late Sinemurian. sediments considered represent inner mid-shelf environment throughout while record region indicates ongoing syn-sedimentary fault movement along basin margins within period.

Corneal transplantation in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

The Corneal Transplant Follow up Study has registered 4560 corneal grafts performed in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland from July 1987 to June 1991. Rates of reported grafts doubled during that time. This increase was greater for surgeons and regions reporting fewer grafts, but was consistent across patient factors. Eleven of 428 consultants were responsible for over 25% of grafts, an...

Early Jurassic allotherians from South Wales (United Kingdom)

Fossils from two fissure fillings in Pant Quarry (designated Pant 4 and Pant 5), South Wales, United Kingdom, probably of Early Jurassic age document a taxonomically diverse vertebrate fauna, the Morganucodon-sphenodont fauna, composed of several kinds of reptiles, non-mammalian synapsids, and mammals. Six isolated molariform teeth from Pant 4 and 5 fissures clearly record the presence of Thoma...

Childhood Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, United Kingdom and Ireland

We conducted prospective surveillance of childhood hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) from 1997 to 2001 to describe disease incidence and clinical, epidemiologic and microbiologic characteristics. We compared our findings, where possible, with those of a previous study conducted from 1985 to 1988. The average annual incidence of HUS for the United Kingdom and Ireland (0.71/100,000) was unchanged f...
